Couple months ago I posted my dream AM2 gaming rig I had planned to buy but AMD dropped the line of chips I was hoping to buy so I dropped AMD and held on until now for the Intel Core 2 Duo instead.
I am so glad I did. :yowch:
Parts I have so far...
1. MOTHERBOARD: Asus P5W DH Deluxe...
July 23rd is likely when the chips will be shipped to OEM manufacturers. Stores will probably get them throughout August and who knows when the mobo companies will release their top-end models that will fully support these chips. August/Sep? We'll see. As I said, the Asus M2N32-SLI DLX WiFI for...
Well it's been a tough decision but I'm scrapping my plans for this AM2 gaming rig. And it's AMD's own fault for this. I was waiting for their AMD AM2 64 X2 4400+ 2MB cache CPU to be released and the same week it was to hit the stores, they pulled it from their AM2 lineup in favor of the 1MB...
Well AMD has made the decision for me. I just learned the AM2 4400+ with 2MB cache will not be released after all and most of the online retailers have started deleting it from their catalogs. It turns out AMD is cutting all the mid-range AM2 chips with 2MB cache so they could manufacture...
Like going to a doctor, always get a second opinion. I was immediately suspicious when the reviewer said he couldn't get the NEC to display 4:3 correctly. It's not supposed to be 4:3 for the PC *only NON-gamers with lousy graphics cards (like that reviewer?) would try to use 1024x768. It's 5:4...
It may not be for everyone's taste, but the monitor I'm planning to get in a couple months is the NEC MultiSync 20WMGX2-BK - flat panel display - TFT - 20.1". It has received numerous excellent reviews that you can easily google for. Imagine playing the games you mentioned in WIDESCREEN. Out of...
Simply put, Asus has me hooked. The quality and design rarely disappoint. Look at eVga's extras and features (are there any?) vs the huge list of additional features Asus includes with their 7900GTX card.
e-GeForce 7900 GTX EGS...
Valid question about the Conroe but so far I haven't seen anything 'independant' that shows it's any better than AMD. A lot of the so-called pre-benchmarks are heavily Intel-skewed. AMD makes great gaming-oriented cpus and AMD seems to work better with nVidia products than Intel does. (or so...
*****EDIT June 24, 2006: AMD rig is being scrapped in favor of the upcoming Intel Conroe......sigh.
It's been a few years since I put together my decent P4 1.6GHz (OC'd to 2.1GHz) and it's time for a massive update.
The 'second' the AMD AM2 X2 4400+ hits the stores (hopefully this week)...
