try booting into text mode, when logged in use 'startx' or edit xorg.conf or sumthin.
you can also boot into failsafe and get X running then configure from there
i just bought a 5-cd FC3 set. when i tried to install it i found out that the first CD was unbootable.
i tried to use one of the images "boot.iso" to try to install. then it gives a message; something like "bad magic number..." and stuff.
is there another way to install Fedora or do i...
i installed knoppix in my harddisk. i got it to work by installing lilo on the root partition of knoppix. saved the boot sector to a file. copied it to the windows boot drive and pointed to it in the NT bootloader
use linux.
anyway, there are those times when internet lags so just wait for a couple of days. also, try to ask on your internet provider. maybe they are the ones lagging
it's funny the network setupwizard didn't work.
i tried networking these two before and all i did was to start XP before the 98 machine and XP did all the work.
ya but it can be installed on your HD. i just want to know if a debian system can be booted using loadlin. bcoz i believe loadlin is the safest way. thanks
i love lilo but somehow it dmagaed my multi-boot and left my XPpro unbootable. i tried 'fdisk /mbr' and it was no good.
can anyone tell me if there was a way too boot knoppix other than lilo. like 'loadlin' or by using the XP bootloader?
thanks a lot
removing the card will probably work. but i wnat to keep it in so i can use programs such as xawtv. it was fine with debian but i want to use slack as my desktop linux. thanks anyway.
i recently added a tv tuner card (pinnacle pctv) for my pc. suddenly sound disappears on my linux box. alsaconf doesn't do anything. alsamixer detects the vtv tuner not the Ac 97 soundcard. any suggestions?
does anyone know how to gnome menu items under RedHat 9?
i'm using GNOME as normal user but i tried the procedure above and it says "operation not permitted". i tried adding items under Slackware. why doesn't it work with RedHat?
do you have a built-in soundcard or not? if not maybe you should check whether your card is supported. did you try the commands i posted? please include your specs in next post. thanks
