Sounds like you wanted to get rid of 98 and merge the two partitions together running only WinXP? The problem is that the bootloader that gives you the 98/XP option at startup was on your c drive. So now the computer boots and doesnt know where to go to get XP started and you get that error...

check the dns settings of each client PC. do not set the dns to be automatic. make the Prefferred DNS address the address of your server...(192.168.0.1 if you run a closed LAN).

I got the same problem. It hasn't worked for months and months. I think maybe one of the patches for easy cd creator screwed it up? I have reinstalled XP and done sfc /scannow
and it still does not work.
