    which Linux distro

I used Fedora a while back. It's basically identical to Redhat, but it was a little too buggy at the time. The Fedora Core 1 may have fixed some (or most) of that.

That's true. I forgot about that. That'll work too.

    free ftp

another choice: XP has a built-in FTP client. Text-based, though, not GUI. It has to be run from the command prompt.

    Which Hard drive?

I'm going to let you in on a little secret. It doesn't matter which brand you buy, as long as it's one of the major brands (WD, Maxtor, Samsung, etc). They all perform exactly the same, and they're all prone to failure just like the others. One person will tell you to buy a Maxtor, while...

    OSNN Anti-Virus Poll

Not sure. It's Norton, and I've been bitten with the recent update woes (I'm sure you've heard of the problem). So I've had to uninstall Norton. I'll let you know when I get my system back up to speed.

    OSNN Anti-Virus Poll

Sure. I cut the processes down to 3. One of them was the auto-updater service, which I don't use. So I'll give the results for the remaining 3: avgcc (Control Center) - 3.8MB avgamsvr (Alert Manager) - 1.6MB avgemc (Email Scanner) - 5.5MB

    OSNN Anti-Virus Poll

Just to prove to myself that I'm not losing my mind, I installed AVG on a test machine. It was version 7, though, not version 6 (my mistake), and it's the Pro version. 4 processes running: avgupsvc, avgamsvr, avgemc, avgcc combined mem usage: 18MB This is measuring memory usage from...

    OSNN Anti-Virus Poll

Elroy: Again, I'll say that that may be the case for you. But that's my whole reason for bringing this up. I'm surprised that you're getting those results. perris: I know how memory management works in NT. But I was always under the impression that physical memory (not virtual...

    OSNN Anti-Virus Poll

The change in pagefile usage? That doesn't really measure RAM usage. There is a column in task manager called "Mem Usage". That tells you the allocated memory of all the processes (or the working set of physical memory). Even if a process isn't using all of the allocated memory, it's still...

    OSNN Anti-Virus Poll

Well, that may be right on your machine Elroy, but I'm sure of the results I got. I've tested all of these AV apps backwards and forwards. AVG v6 ran 4 processes (2 of which were services it had installed), and combined used just as much RAM as Norton. This was with just email scanning and...

    OSNN Anti-Virus Poll

2MB? How did you manage that? In all my testing, AVG always used the same amount of memory as Norton (around 20 Megs give or take). And this was on several different machines.

I don't really remember. I know I was above level 50. The final bosses were pretty easy at the levels I was at, though.

    Final Fantasy X-2

I was disappointed with FFX-2. It was inferior to FFX in every way (except maybe graphics). But that being said, it's still a pretty decent game. The ending pissed me off, though. I won't say how, because I don't want to ruin it for people who haven't played it yet.

    Two OS's on one HDD

yes - to all your questions. If, for some wierd reason, Windows doesn't add the new entry to the boot.ini, it's easy enough to add it manually.
