    looks like a standby problem. I suggest you go to power options from the control panel and disable standby. It could work, you may wanna disable the screen saver as well for testing.

    you can use VirtuaDub to get the audio and TMPGEnc to reformat to whatever format you like. But i assume the audio should be fine in xilisoft as soon as u have all your codecs installed.

    the buffalo solutions seem really good but also expensive. In addition, it's not clear whether it's possible to replace the HDs when u need to. I'll google it a bit to find out. I'm trying not to exceed 250$ for the whole thing.
