Does not have to be a Mac Mini remote. It is a standard infrared remote and can also be used with the MacBook, MacBook Pro's, the iMac and the Apple TV device. It sends a unique identifier before actually sending out the command to execute so that you may "pair" your Apple remote with only one device so that not everyone with an Apple remote may come up and abuse your infrared port :P

If you don't have a use for it, feel free to send it to me! I tend to lose the one I have, so every so often I head to the Apple store to buy a new one :/
