laptop motherboard question

I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite x205-9800 http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/t...ceghdgngdgmn.0

and I am trying to find out what the motherboard will support as far as CPU, memory, etc. But no matter where I seem to look I can't find out what motherboard it has. Anyone have any ideas where I can find this info? I wanted to upgrade to 4 gb ram but I really don't want to use toshiba's "generic" ram, and if I can use faster ram would like to do that also, but again, no idea what I can an can;t do without the mobo specs.

if i am not mistaken it supports core 2 duo, so you should be save with meroms. can someone add to this?

Hello Maveric,

Seems you have the PM965 Chipset, you could go up to the T7500 C2D chip (or anything using the 800Mhz FSB), which runs on an 800Mhz FSB, not a 667Mhz FSB. I have the GM965 Chipset in my laptop and am running the T7100 (1.8Ghz - 800Mhz FSB).

Here is your chipset specs;

Your board is limited to 667Mhz memory, so adding some 800Mhz DDR2 won't do anything.

this program will help as well, it will give you allof the information your looking for and then some. However this is no longer supported by the company has they got out of the freeware market with it.

A follow on from Chastity;

This will tell you loads too, they also make the software 'CPU Z', but this tells you everything about all of your hardware, just incase you wanted to look at all of the gory detail!

You need to check into the BIOS capability. Laptops are severely restricted in what their bios will support in the way of upgrades. So a better CPU or faster ram may not be detected or used.

Power supply and battery capability are limitations also. Heating in the chipset is a concern too.

Well... you could also use... Test My Hardware, this free software is a simple system information and diagnostics utility that provides detailed information about all your hardware component, such as your CPU, memory, operating system, power source. Its simple interface provides an organized overview of all the available information... only if your OS is windows.
