Default DVD burner replacement

I have a Toshiban Equium A80 laptop where the DVD burner has expired (not software problem) - not having much experience on laptops, is it practcal to try a drive replacement rather than lugging an external drive around (ie is it easy to remove and replace)?

The drive in question is a mat****a uj 830s. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Abit BE7 - 533 mhz
Intel P4 - 2.4 ghz
Crucial DIMM - 1 GB
Crucial Radeon 8500 LE Graphics
Western Digital 40 & 80 Gb (7200 rpm)
TDK CD Burner
Philips Dual Layer DVD Burner
XP Home Edition
Philips 17" TFT

I'm gonna learn this guitar, even if it friggin kills me,,,

Default Re: DVD burner replacement

if your lucky it should be a case of pressing a button or releasing a catch and the drive should slide out. if not call toshiba and they'll be able to point you in the right direction.

Oh and Matu****a == Panasonic
