Default I want a portable mp3 player....

yup - my male sibling unit has an iRiver, and its pretty nice - but if you are going for something like that, why not try a MuVo... it's what I use... pretty spiffy, Ill spare the details and just stick in a link:

MuVo NX (LCD, voice recorder, 128 or 256Mb)

MuVo Classic (64 or 128Mb, pretty inexpensive)

hope that helps

iriver has overall better quality and constantly updates firmware

Can't go far wrong with an iBead (there's now a 512Mb Version) I got the 256Mb - it's a very decent player

If you can stretch I'd also look at the 40Gb Xclef!! - my next player!!

...it maekesh me do a shecks wee...

i expect a few firmware updates in the 1st year, but a company that keeps releasing updates, well thats a sign there software is not up to scratch.

yeah the Nomad Firmware is only updated with new formats and the occasional bugfix when they find them. Also if you get a Nomad MP3 player then you will be able to take advantage of the Notmad software which only boosts the rating of the Nomad players imo
