Default VGA to TV (Laptop to TV)

I want to play movies on my tv from my laptop, but the laptop doesn't have tv out. It has VGA out, but to watch on my tv then I need something called a scan converter, which converts VGA to TV. The only ones I have seen are very expensive. What else can I do to watch laptop movies on my tv? Are there less expensive Scan converters?

yeah, vga and tv signals are completely different. to have something convert one signal to the other in real time isn't a simple task. i'd say $100 is an okay deal.

Maybe you can find a used one that someone doesn't need any more, for cheap???

It might be cheaper to just get a new video card for your laptop.

That is correct. I personally do not know of a laptop made that does allow the vid card to be changed, for there is not standard format for that type of exchange.

Of course, I could be wrong.

And, if I am, we shall see eventually....

in some very few cases it's possible. like if your laptop had 2 different choices of video adapter, and you chose the cheaper of the 2, it might be possible to buy the better one and 'swap' it out.

easier said than done, though. first you'd have to find one for sale. then either tackle the installation part yourself or try to find a professional that would be willing to do it.

the yellow, red and white are the vga right?? cause i have a toshiba laptop with the yellow tv-out connector on the back and all i have to do is just connect it to the yellow connector on the tv and another cable for the audio and im done, and the picture quality is pretty good too.
