There has been a serious lack of cool games recently, far cry being an exception.
Deus Ex 2 was a big disappointment, maybe, I did quite get into it. Splinter Cell, I didn't even finish. Apart from that nothing springs to mind. I am still playing Counter-strike

half life was the best game I ever played (other than deus ex) wrt first person shooters... doom for me was never in the same league and is more popular for nostalgia than anything else...
half life 2 has been burning up the reviews as well as doom 3 but coz of half life... I have to give my nod to half life 2  and the havoc physics engine
