Wow that brought back alot of bad memories! :D Learned alot since then and always learning something new when coming to NTFS.org. Maybe one day I'll be the computer nerd I've always wanted to be. :p
I can understand maybe that excessive defragging can tress the HD but why is rebooting and shutting down ur pc hard on ur HD? Usually the only time I reboot is when I do a Microsoft Critical update.
i just downloaded Media Player again. after it downloaded it told me to exit Media Player (i didn't have it running to begin with) and other applications for the set up wizard. i closed everything out and continued with the set up but i still get the same message when i try to open Media Player.
i had to restore my system, xp pro, to an earlier date and now when i try to open Windows Media Player i get this message:
"the file wmp.dll has a version number of 9.0.0.2980 where 9.0.0.3075 was expected. Windows Media Player is not installed properly and must be reinstalled."

i can understand if it took several minutes for the computer to shut down but what's so bad about 30-40 seconds? i never heard of a computer shutting down in 5 seconds before. i dunno....
my previous OS was windows ME and i was ALWAYS problems pop up. i'm not as computer savy as most people on here but XP has performed great with no problems so far.
on DIRECT TV satellite all this month they are playing Coldplay live from Chicago. just got done watching and loved it! :) so if u have DIRECT TV go check it out.
