I am thinking of buying a Bluray drive from LG for my computer and a Asus Xonar soundcard to replace the onboard sound.
Do I need a digital audio cable to be able to get sound as all the blu ray drives I have looked at dont have a port to put the cable into or does the sound from any disks...

Many thanks for all advice and ideas. I don't know what we did but we changed the power management and disabled numerous programs starting at boot up and all seems well.

Removed all the cables and drives, replaced the IDE cables and reinserted all drives with the 250gb as master and all is well so far.

I eventually got around the problem by installing vista on my second HDD and reformatted the problem hard drive. A bit drastic but was all I could think of at the time.
I will be more careful during windows update in future!
The computer is about 4 years old. The bios shows it as 250gb and windows did show it as 236gb before the boot disk errors.
