I'm thinking of buying a Win7 laptop. What I'd like to do after receiving it is swap out the 500 GB conventional disk and replace it with a SSD instead, if possible. (The laptop I'm looking at doesn't offer SSD pre-installed.)
I'm thinking this will be a 2-step job, 1) shrink the Win7 partition...
Control Panel > Power Options > Advanced tab. You should be able to change what it does when you close the lid - at least I can on mine, I prefer the Do Nothing option myself. :p
If I share a folder on a removable (firewire) drive, then disconnect the device, when I plug it back in, I find the share has vanished and I have to recreate it. This only happens on my laptop, which is running WinXP SP1. I don't have this problem on my PC that's running WinXP Gold - the shares...
Turns out that that was not the case after all, and I still cannot enable ICS regardless of the rest of the network.
Any other ideas on what is wrong would be helpful :p

I just realised I used 192.168.0.1 to configure my laptop as temporary network gateway since I needed the connection up for other machines on the LAN without having to reconfigure all of those, and that appears to be the problem, from the more informative error message the network...
ICS is currently disabled though, and I get this when I attempt to re-enable it. Would it help if I post my old and current configurations?
EDIT: Actually, I'll do it anyway, since it seems that with your problem, it looks like it's the guest interface that's removable, while in my case, it's...
However, none of my present installed adapters are configured to use 192.168.0.1 presently, but I still get this message when I attempt to share the ADSL connection with one of the network cards.
I do know a previous connection had that IP assigned before I deleted it (a network bridge to be...
Is there an easy way to disconnect and reconnect network drives to different share points through the command line? I'm thinking of writing a batch file which I can run, so I can mass change where my drive letters point to quickly when I need different resources from different IPs on my network...
I had no problems (other than my firewall configurations being overly restrictive and blocking the new IPs I picked for this network) to network a WinXP PC and WinXP SP1 laptop together over firewire. Both machines also have at least one NIC and both have ICS installed, and so I can also access...
How do I see which application currently running is the one blocking my PC from entering power saving modes (e.g. turning the monitor off, standby etc.) or from hibernating?
Not sure which forum this will fit in best, but I think this is fine.
Basically I have a laptop with WinXP Pro SP1, but no WinXP CD - (re)installation takes place off a hidden partition.
Would it be possible for me to create a bootable CD to boot into the recovery console, in the event I...
