Default Unix Hierarchy

Are there any unix, bsd, linux distro's that are based on the unix hierarchy?
i386 and up please.

I saw Gobo Linux at distrowatch. Gobo is cool and all, but it still needs a little development for me.

Not too sure if one really exists. Unix, by SCO, is a licensed software like Windows. Because of that, any program that uses the Unix hierarchy could be liable for lawsuit. In fact, major linux brands are facing this type of lawsuit right now.

SCO was bought by Caldera a while back, and I know that at work we have the option of loading Linux Kernal compatilbility when installing UnixWare, but it is not a free distro like your average Linux. Try looking at their site for UnixWare 7.1.1, 8, or 7.1.3. and see what they say. There was a free single-user licence available for 7.1.1 at one time.

1st Unix != Linux ... Linux is a "Unix like" OS ... they share no code 2nd I believe the BSD's are as close as your going to get to a "true" Unix for free.

We established that. Unix and Linux are not the same thing. Linux is a Unix like OS. However, just in case you didn't know, SCO is currently suing major Linux distributors like IBM and Red Hat over the alleged copying of Unix code into their flavors of Linux. They even went all out to say that the 2.5.x kernel had illegal Unix code.

That's true. However, going along with the original question, not even BSD's have Unix hierarchy.

Yeah I'm well aware of what SCO is doing but the fact that Linus has gone thru all "suspected" code and shown how *he* had written it SCO really has not grounds at all

Its like being a morphine addict, except to Windows. I don't even like Windows, its just that I'm so use to the file structure or Windows. Then I remembered my old sparc and unixware, the good ole days. But then realized SCO had screwed everything up, and then thought I'd write my own kernel. LMFAO!!! LIKE I COULD WRITE A KERNEL!!!

So I think im gonna try http://linux-ntfs.sourceforge.net...
The goals of this project are: create a new Linux kernel driver for the NTFS file system (v1.2 and later 3.0), user space utilities (e.g. format, ntfs check, etc.) and a library to avoid code duplication and provide access to NTFS to other GPLed programs.
Thanks for the help guys and I'll let you know how it works out.

Novell only owns one brand of Unix.
