I think of it this way: I am a christian and it is a christian holiday, so I say Merry Christmas if it is before christmas. If it is between Christmas and New Years I usually either say Happy Holidays or Happy New Year.

I'm an Atheist and I say Merry Christmas. The war on Christmas doesn't exist.

I say Merry Christmas no matter whom I'm saying (or writing) it to. My feeling is that if they are offended by my saying it, then they should be at work when everyone else has the day off for the holiday. You probably won't find that happening!

as far as "you won't find that happening", quite the contrary, where I work, people take off on their own holiday and not on other's holiday, if the owner has his holiday and wants to give everyone the gift of that day off as a bomus of course everyone takes the bonus, but that's the only time anyone takes off on another person's holiday where I work, I am going to bet that's the situation in most work envirnments this season it's not just christmas, though you apparently think it is, it happens to be just christmas to those who celebrate the holiday and don't understand or even care that there are other celebebration just for your information, in case you didn't know it yet, it happens to be nother holidays for a good portion the people we meet and greet...just so you know, you are wishing someone happy birthday on a day that is not their birthday me, if I know what the person celebrates that's what I acknowledge in the greeting, if it's christmas I greet them with that, if it's chanukah that's my greeting, if I don't know what they celebrate then they get a happy holiday there is no "war on christmas", what there happens to be is a war on everyone who does not celebrate the holiday by people who actually claim saying "happy holiday" is somehow a bad thing as I said, why would I wish someone else happy birthday on my birthday, that would be really rediculous and I feel the same about wishing someone merry christmas even though it might not be their holiday sazar has the best solution in the post directly above mine |

perris, it actually was not intended to start a discussion, I was trying to be "politically correct" in wishing everyone @ osnn.net a great Holiday season. Perhaps my best wish is for everyone to have a Happy New Year and hope ya'll are here @ the end of the year for me to wish you a Happy 2012!!

don't know what you mean by politically correct here johnny, I do know I I don't want to wish you happy birthday when it's mine though, it seems to me what's now "politically correct' is telling someonnne "merry christmas" even if they don't celebrate, that's "politically correct" in this discussion
the puppet masters are making a big deal out of calling the holiday season ":the christmas season" even though there are quite a few other holidatys besides christmas, it's not the christmas season for everyone and the puppet masters are saying "welll tough crap" I hate it when the puppet masters win by creating a false "war" and deliberately causing a fight during my holiday season when there is no way on the planet there should be that fight, and I am pretty certain most people don't want to wish a happy anything to people that don't observe that thing anyway, that's the way I feel, had a good time discussing this and saying happy holidays to that damnyankee and everyone who has a celebration other then christmas, and saying merry christmas to those who have christmas see all on another thread |

Depending on what you believe will determine how you play it. Either way, you will find that more people celebrate the day as the birth of jesus than anything else. I also feel that if you don't believe it was the birth of Jesus, then don't celebrate it. Just do your normal everyday thing and forget all the trees, lights, gifts and commercialism that comes with it. How hard is that? Also, look up santa clause. You will see that he was actually a preist who gave gifts to the needy around christmas, which he believed was the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.. I find it stupid that people always come out this time of year and are so hard fast against the people who believe what Christmas, notice it is "Christ"mas, is, but yet still do all the celebrating and gifting and the like. I would say they are hypocrites, but I don't want to offend anyone. We have to be PC now you know ..
