Default 9700 pro HELP

I don't know if this has already been posted, but I'm having a spot
of bother with my new 9700 pro.
It seems that some of the icons in Windows are a bit garbled
and after a while, the monitor power cuts off. Then you have to restart the
system to get it going again.

Have I installed it properly???

Somebody help:confused:

(I think it may be something to do with my 1.2 Athlon)

Try disabling FastWrites in your BIOS and from the VGART control (in ATI control panel).

I found the same issue, and doing the above fixed it WITHOUT any performance loss.

I've disabled the Fastwrites in the ATI panel but I still get the
problem. I can't appear to see anything to do with that in BIOS.
Anybody else got any ideas?

**EDIT** I just found the setting in BIOS but it was already disabled **EDIT**

how big is your power supply unit.. in terms of watts ? name brand or not ?

also make sure that your cables are all plugged in properly... I know it sounds nutty.. but I had one of my monitor cables loose and it bggered me up for a day lol... untill I put it in properly..

also try using different drivers... I recommend cat 3.0 or 3.1's

what chipset do you have for your mobo? cuz there's a known issue with the new VIA Hyperion Drivers and the 9700 pro, I had this problem and had to revert my VIA drivers back to fix the problem. I even posted on the VIA site and there's a large number of people with the same problem and they have no fix for it at VIA.

I have a 400w PSU mate.

wolfpac3nWo, which VIA drivers did you go back to?
I'm using the 4.46's on an Asus 87V8x mobo.
I'm also using the 3.1 catty's.
I heard that ATI arn't very compatible wit Asus mobo's.....
Anyone back that up?

**UPDATE** I've managed to stop the card becoming unstable in windows
by putting the power in the AGP slot to 1.6v in BIOS.
Only problem is, the damn things crashes in ANY 3D application!! **UPDATE**

I would recommend you post perhaps in www.rage3d.com forums in the technical help section for your particular card...

they have good help there... know more about hardware issues than most of us here... by a long shot...

tell me this though... does the card itself work fine ?

try it in another system... basically ensuring your hardware is wrking by process of elimination...

as far as via drivers are concerned.. I have heard of problems.. but since I have not updated to em personally.. I have no knowledge of that myself...

perhaps wolfpac can help more on that...

sry...

It seemed to work when I changed the AGP voltage,
then crashed in mid-game about 1/4 of an hour later.
As for trying it in a different system, I will do it tommorrow

(I found the AGP information from rage3d )

sounds like a recurring problem i had a while back.

turned out to be a bad capacitor on my mobo. you may wanna check it out. it'll cost $3 to replace it. (if you solder it yourself).

i ended up spending hundreds of dollars, replacing virtually everything on my system before realizing i had a bad capacitor.

I know you said you tried the AGP voltage, but have you gone as far as you can go? ATI reckon you can max at 1.8V without doing damage. On the same mobo as yours I have to have mine at 1.7V or I get the same problem
