Default Frame rates poor - GeForce 4600 WTF?

OK, I reckon my system is under performing and I'm not sure why...

GeForce 4600 Ti 128Mb card
D845HV PIV 1.8 GHz 100 MHZ FSB
40 GB HDD
900 (ish) Mb pc133 ram

3D Mark 7389
FPS with everytthing on in UT2003 Average on Antalus 30-45

but the thing is my m8 with a 1.5 GHZ machine and a 64MB Ge force card gets better results (3D Mark 7500!) and better frame rates.

His FSB is 133MHz and he reckons this is an issue.

I had a similar score with my ti4600 a couple of weeks ago. what apparenty happened was when I updated my driver windows did not like the fact that they were unsigned ( I'm using the manufaturers drivers) and did not install the drivers completley in order to fix it I went to device manger double clicked my video card- update driver, i then chose 'install from a specific location' and then the 'don't search. I will choose the driver to install' and chose the correct driver.
one of the signs that your driver is not correctly install is that open GL game dont run.

ok what type of cpu is your friend running? if its at 1.5ghz and its an AMD it would be an 1800+ which would explain why his gets a higher schore then yours because of his FSB and the fact that the cpu is doing alot more work then your P4.

If his cpu is an 1800+ it should have around the same performance as your 1.8 p4, if yours is a northwood that is. Is it? And does he have ddr? This would make all the difference compared to your pc133.

With the kind of setup I'd need to play online I've manage to slim the startup to 27 processes and get a 3D Mark of 7575

Something is defiantly not right. I have an XP1700+ and a GF3 TI200 and get a little over 8000 in 3dMark. My first guess would be a driver issue. I would go to Nvidia's website and grab the latest official driver from there and see how that goes.

I run a VisionTek GeForce4 Ti4200 128ddr that I achieve 10,963 3DMark 2001 scores with.

Try switching around nVidia drivers. It may take awhile, but you'll thank me.

For example, 29.80, 30.82 & the beta 42.68 Detonator drivers are the only drivers I get decent results with. My brother can't run UT2003 with those drivers installed - and we wouldn't dare to try to figure out why we have such a difference on such similar systems (he's also running similar card, CPU & memory).

Each new driver release is a surprise: download as many driver releases as you can find (including the ones from your manufacturers website), give yourself about two hours, and uninstall, install & test, uninstall, install & test,, uninstall, install & test until you know for certain which drivers give you the best results. I promise you'll find a release, maybe an older one, that just knocks your socks off in FPS and benchmarking.

Make sure AA and AF are shut off, maybe reinstall the driver.

Your FSB and PC133 RAM may be holding you back also.

That's definately it, and that is a decent score with your config. In your case the bottle neck is not the vid card, nor the cpu. Both could easily best a 10,000 3DMark with a good mobo with DDR memory.
