I am trying to get Win-XP Home installed on a new hard drive but every time i try to install xp i get this error. (see below) funny thing is it had xp installed on the old hard drive until it packed in.

The XP CD loads the Windows Setup right up till the setup window, but stops/crashes with this error.

The BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant, Please contact system vendor or visit http:/www,hardware-update.com for a bios update. it goes on to say something about pressing the F7 key but this doesn't work.

I have tried looking for a bios update but don't know which or what to do.

I tried the HP forum but nobody has answered yet :(

Is the XP setup SP3? Is it home retail-upgrade, professional, retail-upgrade? Try Nlite to copy the setup to an empty folder on your HDD. Slipstream SP3 to it if it isn't already. Use Driverpacks to intergrate chipsets among others or atleast intergrate Mass storage drivers. I'm assumeing the new drive is sata. Most new HHD's are.

I will try to give you more info. I am using a XP disc that has been updated to SP3 using nLite, the disc is ok. Here's other info that might help.

i also sent this to HP to see if they can help.

I am trying to install XP Home on a brand new "Hitachi H/Drive (see new drive info below). XP was already installed on the old h/drive that i thought was dead (see old drive info below).
How can i get xp installed on this computer. (see computer Info below). I have tried what it said to do using the F7 key but it still won't install XP. It loads untill the screen to press enter to install XP the it crashes with the blue screen error.

Every time i try to install Win-XP Home i get the error below.
Blue Screen Crash Error.
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage etc.
if this is the first time you have seen this error etc etc........
The BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant, Please contact your system vendor or visit http://www.hardware-update.com for an updated BIOS. If you are unable to obtain an updated BIOS or the latest BIOS supplied by your vendor is not ACPI compliant, you can press the F7 key when you are prompted to install storage drivers. The system will not notify you that the F7 key was pressed - it will silently disable ACPI and allow you to continue your installation.

have you tried using an official Microsoft OEM or retail install disk? the fact that you're blue screen is including a link to a non-Microsoft site gets me thinking there is something wrong with the build on that disk.

Plus it would be F6 not F7 to install drivers so ya I think it is a bogus disc.

It's the blue screen of death that's saying to press the F7, not my XP disc, i know there is an opportunity to press F6 just as the XP disc starts but it's not that thats asking.
I know my XP-SP3 disk is OK because i use it to install XP on other computers desktop & laptops and everything works OK. so it must be the laptop.
I have just connected both old & new h/drives to my pc by a sata dock i have and both format to NTFS ok and i can copy stuff onto them and delete again, so i have found out it's not the h/drives.

thanks for input, any more ideas

XP doesn't have mass storage drivers for SATA harddrives on the setup cd.

Ahhh! I think i had to do this a long time ago, would i be correct in saying that i have to find out the "Make/Model" of the motherboard to get the correct sata drivers.

thanks Arniestan1

It's easier to use driverpacks to intergrate mass storage drivers. I create an empty folder (rename it if you want). Download driverpacks base and the mass storage driver. Run the base install directing it to extract to the new folder. Copy the storage drive you downloaded to the driver packs folder created by the base extraction in the new folder. Refer to my first post reply to you about useing inlite to copy your XP setup to another empty folder before you run the driverpacks integrater. During the driverpacks intergration proccess it'll ask for location of your XP setup files (just piont it to the folder nlite copied your XP setup cd to. I don't change any peramiters the base uses for this intergration proccess I just click next all the way to the end then select intergrate. It only takes aprox. 30 seconds to complete on my PC. I then go back to nlite and select make ISO. Run it, then burn XP setup cd either with nlite or the burner program of choice.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
