Default DVD Firmware

I suppose it had to happen one day. I own a large number of DVD's in R1 and R2 format. After swapping them around to watch them, i've now been locked into R2 format on the Drive itself.

I've seen websites that have new firmware to download to make the drives reigon free, but how good is this? Will it knacker me drive up, or degrade it's performance?

Any idea's/help welcomed...

Hehe, ok, well the most up-to-date and comprehensive list can be found here:
http://perso.club-internet.fr/farzeno/firmware/

If a hacked/updated firmware exists, it will be there.

If you do find a firmware, do not flash from windows xp, boot to true dos using a boot disk to win98 which you can find here http://www.bootdisk.com

I am always around to help more if you need it.
