If that's your existing configurations, then I'd say save up and do everything at once. There isn't any point in making small upgrades as we're now moving towards 64-bit computing which requires almost every component in that list to be upgraded all in one go.

Even minor upgrades such as a faster cpu will most likely require you to upgrade the motherboard as well to support the faster processor.

Curent system:
Intel Quad Core 9450 | 4GB RAM | WD Raptor 36GB | nVidia 8800GT 512mb

i was looking for a small ugrade to play upcoming games and then like in 6 month build a new pc, i was thinking upgrading the gpu to a radeon 9800pro or a geforce 6600. and the problem with my processor its thats its integrated into the motherboard so i have to buy both the cpu and the mobo at the same time.

Not worth the upgrade in my opinion. When upgrading, you should aim to keep it for at least 1 year before making another upgrade (unless of course you have money to waste).

Upgrading the GPU may be the wise choice at present, but I'd suggest that you think about what system you're wanting to upgrade to in 6 months time as you may be able to re-use the GPU as long as you're sticking to an AGP based motherboard.

Yes, best to wait and go the whole hog. I'd up your RAM to 1GB in your new system and you can NEVER have enough hard disk space

In 6 months time you'll probably be able to get a faster CPU for the same price as the 3200 is now. Same goes for the GFX card.

Commodore 64 | 6510 - 0.985 MHz CPU | 64KB RAM | 20 KB ROM | VIC II Graphics 320 x 200, 16 + 16 border colours | SID Sound 3 voices, 9 octaves, 4 waveforms | 300 bps Tape Interface | External PSU | Blistering Fast!!!

With a socket 939 amd 64 definitely the 2 x 512. It will allow dual channel acces that doubles memory bandwidth. That is the 939's claim to fame over the 754 socket the 939 supports dual channel DDR access.

Thought for the new millenium:

In a world without walls and fences, who needs Windows and Gates?

- Open Office - Firefox - Thunderbird - Gimp -Ubuntu - Red Hat -
