my son just helped me via phone, I went into the bios and esc and saved, then the E drive was restored.

this is a commonplace - you were lucky the BIOS redetected it - often with a poor BIOS it is required to physically unplug and replug the drive - I know because I have found myself doing it! (there's a thread somewhere here!)
