Sounds like a digital camera cable, I'm pretty sure that I've seen cables like you describe before...

Is the s-video end male or female? In other words is it an input for a computer or an ouptut to a tv/receiver?

I found this:
http://www.national-tech.com/specs/uav-113.htm
which is an input cable that replaces video capture cards.

Hope this helps.

"S" cable portion of it is male.

If I go from my DVD ("S") and plug it into a USB port. I won't be able to view it on my computer unless I have a decoder card.
