Default hard drive taking forever to "check disk"..

before when i would "check disk" my drive C for bad sectors and to fix them it would take about 50 minutes to do so. yesterday i did the "check disk" to look for/fix bad sectors and it was 3 HOURS INTO IT and it was only half way done! nothing came up saying it found bad sectors or anything like that. instead of letting it continue to run i shut down my computer. why would it be taking so long? plus, i did a test on my hard drive from the manufactuer and it passed. should i run PC Doctor For Windows to check my hard drive as well? thanks guys.
