Default maxtor diamond max plus 9 80gb

for the 8mb buffer edition, bad news guys...
I have that drive, but the bad one.
Recently there was some news about the new
firmware version being on 80gb platters and
a lot faster. Well i contacted maxtor about it, and
bad news.... Here is what they said:

Thank you for sending your MAXTOR E-mail inquiry.

Hello Yngwie II
There is no firmware update for this drive. To get the performance from the drives with 80 gig platters you would need to get one of these drives. Unless you are able to return the drive to the store under there warranty. Sorry for the troubles.

Ok i kept looking around.
And i found a little program that checks if you have the new or the old version. It's called Speedfan.

http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php

once installed go to S.M.A.R.T
and select your drive, on the right you see firmware.
If it's this :

YAR41VW0

Then you have the old one like i just discovered i have..
I was frozen when i saw it, it hurt but ok hehe

if you have:

YAR41BW0

Then clap your hands and grab a beer cuz you then have the newest and fastest one making you own the fastest normal ide
drive available.
