Default great itunes promo and a clueless itunes question

ok, for the next month starbucks gives away an itunes song a day, today is bob dylan

now for two clueless questions;

1) I don't have an ipod, I don't have an mp3 player, I do have a smartphone that's also a player, I don't know what format it plays

can I download these songs and use them on my smartphone ?(6800)

b) I think I can use the itune on my vista but do I need a player?...which one if so

thanx in advance

[edit]

I went to the site and it recognized windows and that I had no player so it's downloading

but what about my smart phone, is there a player for that?

it depends on if the tracks they are giving away are the unprotected tracks. If they are unprotected, you can rip/re-encode as necessary for your phone. If they are the protected (.m4p file extension I believe), then it will be harder to play on your phone. Still possible if you burn to CD first, and then rip off the created CD into the desired format.

First step, of course, is figure out what format your phone will play.. mp3 usually a safe bet

Yeah, you'll probably have to do what Fitz suggested because your phone won't have the software to read the encryption on the tracks, unless they are DRM-free.

On a side note, I believe iTunes still gives away free tracks every Tuesday -- several if I'm not mistaken.

Dude, use the Amazon music store.

DRM free, cheaper and you can use the songs on ANY player.

Due to the pricing, you can actually get pretty decent per song averages, EVEN WITH the iTunes promotion out there.

Btw, Bob Dylan performed at ACL here a couple of weeks ago. I've seen wooden posts do better. He's done for. Love his old stuff but he really needs to hang up his stuff before he destroys the image everyone has of him.

You've seen wooden posts perform? Where? I've been trying to get tickets but they are always sold out!

They occasionally creek in the wind. Bob looked like a zombie out there that had died all over again. And I mean that in the nicest possible way, honest.

Funny thing is, I dated a girl about 10 years ago who saw Bob Dylan live at the time. She said basically the same thing... 10 years ago!

Yah, he looked like crap back then too, but at least his vocal chords weren't as dead as the rest of him. I heard him a few years back and he was acceptable. Now, it's just painful to listen to and worse to watch.

What a total waste, worst show of ACL hands-down.
