I believe you must have a paging file of some size (doesn't have to be huge) to run Photoshop.

Photoshop will run on a machine with a large amount of memory (=>1gig) without a page file, but you must still specify swap file disks (partitions) in the preferences, otherwise it moans like hell. It needs a fair bit of ram just to lad the image in, and then of course, as soon as you do any work that image is duplicated as an undo buffer, and a lot of the plugs need tremendous amounts of memory.

(You want to try using Maya, it needs bl**dy ENORMOUS amounts of memory!!)

Buy what, photoshop or XP?? Both copies are legit, but how does that answer the question?

Default Will not work without page file

I have a gig of Ram on my workstation and I still cannot run Photoshop 6 without a paging file. I ended up putting my paging file on a separate partition on a secondary drive and made it just the size of the swapfile and put the partition on the end so its on the outer edge of the drive. In theory this should make paging faster. Seems to work ok for me. If I could get my highpoint controller on my MB to play nice with XP, I would just add an old small HD to my PC and just use it for swap only.

There have to be better things to argue about. You need the paging file to run Photoshop.

Not that it's any of my business, but why not have a small page file anyway? Can't hurt and unless you have a small hd I'm sure you can spare the room. Not trying to be argumentative, just curious.
