More Car Woes

Posted November 23rd, 2005 at 8:47pm by Electronic Punk (Electronic Blog)

Last night someone hit my car again putting a huge dent in the door panel I recently had fixed for £350 they also seem to have disrupted the brake electronics, so yeah, I am in a great ****ing mood. I have spent over £300 on my car this month already sorting the brakes out and then someone hits my car and then doesn't even have the decency to leave a note, so I get them to pay for it. I guess thats one of the problems of living opposite a pub, you get people who have blatently had too much to drink so don't stop on fear of being prosectuted or me noticing that they can't even walk properly.

In related news, more x64 stuff seems to be going on:
- Firstly NVIDIA have released yet more drivers, this time WHQL certified
- Alcohol 120% have announced that they will be offering 64bit soon, great news - has it only been 7 months?
- Logitech... well they have decided they may or may not support x64 in future driver releases, ****ing muppets.

****ing...

Defrag Quickie & Firewall Shocker

Posted November 21st, 2005 at 5:33am by Electronic Punk (Electronic Blog)

I was checking out the Raxco website the other day, I really can't remember why though - perhaps for licencing as it is something we are looking into.

Slight tangent, we are also looking into Diskeeper who actually rang the office the day, so I was delighted to tell them that I used Perfectdisk (hah!) but told them I would be happy to switch if they released an x64 version before Raxco. I really have no idea if I would really be happy to switch - never actually used Diskeeper.

My current solution is O&O defrag, which looks great and has some really cool features but the defrag options kinda confuse me. You would think that if you were doing an "modified" defrag it would put the most recently edited stuff at the end so it had the freedom to move around, with the files that never get modified well stacked. Guess not? But I'm not the expert...

Anyway, so I was looking on the Raxco site and I saw that they had updated their FAQ quite recently saying...

Turning my attention

Posted November 17th, 2005 at 11:08pm by Electronic Punk (Electronic Blog)

Well I tested the Creative software update. Installed the drivers. Installed all the applications from the CD (couldn't be bothered to deselect the DVD-audio, it isn't something I use anyway) and got the update installed. It works great. I once again have full surround from my PC, oh centre speaker, how I have missed you. The crappy remote application is working as well, but now I have seen how poor it is, I think I will disable it anyway and condemn the remote to the drawer. Thanks to Cat over on the Soundblaster forums for taking my abuse for the past couple of weeks, you promised November and you delivered 100%

Now Logitech, where are the webcam drivers? The last device on my system that needs a driver and its being held up by a company that is dedicated to provided x64 drivers. Heres a interesting tidbit, your mice and keyboards (although lovely) really don't need drivers. The unknown USB peripheral in my Device Manager does!

There now doesn't seem to be...

Then it was Tuesday

Posted November 15th, 2005 at 9:25pm by Electronic Punk (Electronic Blog)

If I keep this up I will almost be doing a daily updates. Two on the trot. I am getting very excited about going to CES in January, looking at getting business cards and T-shirts, but as usual I am sure it will fall flat.

I don't know what the hell I did last night, can't remember a damn thing, not drunk or anything. I sat there for a bit waiting for NVIDIA drivers and that about all I can remember.

That new 7800 GTX 512meg looks ****ing amazing, quite depressing that my until-this-month top of the range cards have been pounded. Not only is this new 512 meg one only a little more expensive, its cooler and quieter! I am going to stand my ground though and not make a single move until the Geforce 8 comes along, after I lose my plea to NVIDIA not to call their next graphics card Geforce.

Daemon Tools 4.0 was released and fell back on it's promise to support 64bit, a later version will support it apparently, ho hum. Tonight I will be mostly installing...

Arg ’tis Monday

Posted November 14th, 2005 at 10:02pm by Electronic Punk (Electronic Blog)

I generally ****ing hate mondays and this one is no exception. Woke up this morning feeling like **** and after a cocktail of redbull, coffee, pepsi and lucozade I still feel horrible. An interesting weekend though.

My car was and still remains screwed and is currently sat in the garage. The rear brake cylinder got fried and decided to fuse itself to the drum, I am very much not car-savvy so that could well have made sense to both people who know about cars and those who don't. Either way its going to hae cost meo over a total of £200 to get sorted, really nice as I just spent £70 getting the front brakes sorted.

Firstly I got an e-mail from Jed at Microsoft on Saturday morning and I have been invited to CES2006 in early January which is awesome. Had I been flying out this year the amount of holiday or leave I would have had left might have put me in a tough position. Now I will actually get 3 days off without having to travel over to the other side of the world!...
