Back to sixty four

Posted July 24th, 2006 at 7:02pm by Electronic Punk (Electronic Blog)

So I formatted over the weekend as I really had nothing better to do, making sure I had my backup.pst, favourites and 300 gig of other data - I was quite impressed with my drive once again, managing to complete moving the data off in around 90 minutes, damn cool.

I don't know what it is about the Windows x64 installation but I have never actually had it work correctly first time. It always has to slap me around with random bluescreens, failure to read a floppy disc or CD that I know damn well is fine, stopping on every other file during the copy to ask for a file so I could hit return for it then to copy the file. Only to find I would get into a weird reboot cycle which actually turned out to be the XP install CD failing to do its detection of a valid system then confusing itself - with the CD out of the drive it booted fine.

Only problem I then found was that I needed to find a network driver which I had to rip off the standard Fatal1ty CD which was smart enough...

It breathes again

Posted July 20th, 2006 at 6:48pm by Electronic Punk (Electronic Blog)

Been a damn long time since I updated so I thought I would do it now, not sure where to start though really, perhaps at the last post.

I was playing with the Word 2007 which now has a feature to post blogs straight from Word itself, a very cool feature if you are into such things. Not exactly the blogging type really as I always have OSNN to express my opinions, that and I tend to rant on far too long which seems to go against the blogging way. But I am sure some people will find it a great feature.

Has been so hot here for the past couple of days and I have been finding it so hard to concentrate in any kind of way after about 3pm, which is strange as that used to be the time my brain would used to finally kick in. Perhaps I need to start increasing my dosage of Red Bull as I am currently down to about one can every four hours, my teeth hurt.

The last post I haven't deleted (har) talked briefly about Wireless keyboards, I was waiting for Logitech...

Webdesign Again!

Posted February 15th, 2006 at 5:48pm by Electronic Punk (Electronic Blog)

The World of Warcraft guild I am in is getting quite a reputation on our server, so obviously as far as promotion goes (why does this game keep bursting out into the real world!), I felt it was important that the Guild had a good looking website.

Sadly the current one is a very basic phpbb theme with a similarly and integrated portal.php that lets you select one (or more) forum category that will act as the news for the frontpage - pretty basic stuff.

I have been working on a design that could continue to use the phpbb templates to some extent (hopefully just for variables such as post counts, online members and indeed the posts themselves) and then the news posters (sounds a bit like a news site so lets call them Heralds to keep in with the whole fantasy theme) could then simply post some HTML in and voila... a post appears, it is a little more complicated as I really want new images up every week, but thats about it, we even have a modified spoiler script...

Rig Pimpage Lives!

Posted February 6th, 2006 at 4:34pm by Electronic Punk (Electronic Blog)

So I found a little time last night to do what I was dreading to do, take my old motherboard out and replace it with a new motherboard. I made this easy for myself by effectively making it an upgrade. 3400+ --> 3700+ stunning eh?

Obviously taking a motherboard out is not the most fun you can have on a Sunday evening, especially when the graphics card is attached to the nortbridge with a cooler, so I had to remove the cooler from the motherboard first while keeping the graphics card out while remember that both of those were attached to the hard drive and liquid cooling unit, respectively.

I managed to do it though with a little help. I then had to remount the Nortbridge cooler while the motherboard was still unattached while taking care of a loose 6800 Ultra that was left flapping around. All went well though and after carefully putting everything back into place... would it boot?

No.

****, what did I expect? I bought the motherboard...
