Hardcore Vista

Ok so this week lots of controversy in the Windows Vista arena with various high profile beta testers saying Vista should be delayed by a month or two and an additional beta added.
I feel I need to vent somewhere and I found Paul Thurrott's response pretty damn funny and so true. (check it out here: http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/winvista_ready.asp )
Regarding businesses waiting to deploy Vista - The company I work for only just rolled out WindowsXP and we are still refining it, granted we are slower than most but how likely is it large (or sensible) businesses will be rolling out Vista anywhere near the launch time? It is going to happen of course but only a few months afterwards.
Regarding beta3, how true! I remember when Microsoft where trying to drop the beta system completely and people were running around panicking because then they wouldn't know what progress was being made? How about using it and reporting problems, that’s why you are on the beta.
Regarding the age of testers, hah! Although of course having testers from all age groups is obviously a benefit it tends to be the ones that are younger that like to be a little more colourful and vocal. I remember getting really excited about the Windows 95 release and I was only 14, Doom in a Window was the whole extent and range of my Windows 95 knowledge at that time. Ooh yeah.
My opinion?
Obviously been a pleasure to test Vista for the 24 months I have been testing it and a joy to watch it grow, get faster and more stable. Vista will apparently go RTM for businesses in 3 or 4 months.
5381 was released this time around 3 months ago with build 5381 being released right at the end of March and they both had their issues.
5472 is our current build which we have had for around three weeks now, it isn't perfect but it is completely usable and I have been using Vista as my primary OS on my laptop for business trips since the start of March to be honest and watching it become more and more useable, having to stick with it as I had made no alternative available.
5487 is currently out there in the hands of TAP testers, they say these builds are usually made to test one feature for particular test group, but I would have thought at this stage of testing on a feature complete operating system it would be good for anyone to use - but I will be patient!
It would be nice to think that Vista is going to make the same kind of progress in the next four months as it has in the last four months, I don't want to see it delayed as I am itching to get it installed on my main rig safe in the knowledge I won't feel compelled to format afterwards, but it is definitely important that it is finished and everything we want it to be when it hits the shelves next year.
