Firstly a mini rant about blogs, because I can - I use WindowsXP x64 I can do what the hell I want, but this is something that has got me wound up and when I get angry Mr. Bigglesworth gets upset and when Mr. Bigglesworth gets upset, people die! This is the definition of a blog:

"A short form for weblog, a personal journal published on the Web. Blogs frequently include philosophical reflections, opinions on the Internet and social issues, and provide a "log" of the author's favourite web links. Blogs are usually presented in journal style with a new entry each day."
Ok, I am definitely guilty of the last part, but I am a busy man - I have a full time job, a healthy appetite for computer games and I run a popular (horn blower) news site, as well as visiting lots of news sites so it often quite refreshing to come and read a blog page to see peoples self-confessed feelings about Windows x64 and how they are getting on with it, not a page full of stale news on the aggregate page, cut from wherever with little to no personal opinion, if you want to post news I am sure Ryan will be more than happy to show you the front page. You know who you are! *shakes fist*

WinRAR got patched yesterday ( http://www.rarlabs.com ) and it fixed an issue I was having with the context menus, again! It was leaving a process behind every time I used 'extract to' that I would eventually have to close manually, good stuff. I was just saying to someone that night that it was the last issue I was having with x64, I guess I will have to think of something else now.

With the release of the new NVIDIA cards came a new set of drivers which surprised a few of us and far surpassed our expectations, these drivers are nice. Half-life 2 plays like Half-life did if you know what I mean, so damn smooth. I am still hammering World of Warcraft which maybe seems a little smoother. Doom3 works nicely, did look poor but I don't think I have customised the graphics options so was running at it's lowest setting, I will have to crank it up until it tells me to stop. Unreal works of course as it does with anything and I have yet to try out Farcry. I have also managed to start playing Call of Duty again as Even Balance pulled their finger out and sorted out Punk Buster, I have already played one friendly clan match too which we won nicely - I was more than a little rusty but the game was flying, perhaps because I haven't re-enabled Anti-aliasing etc. just yet.

I will keep playing with those NVIDIA drivers, only had one issue so far with PowerDVD which had dome mad colours, reapplying all colours via the control panel applet sorted that out nicely though, why am I using PowerDVD? Well I tried the new Purevideo filters and not once, but twice did it cause my system to crash - my first crash with x64 I might add, I will try and work with NVIDIA on this but I really don't like forcing my system to crash, it also throws in an incompatible driver into the wow64/drivers folder, something I was promised would be fixed, next release eh?

I have been trying out O&O defrag while I wait for Perfectdisk x64, I am actually really impressed with this, but it would of course be silly of me to purchase two different defragmenters, but I only have so much patience, talking of which I have just about had enough of Symantec and Norton and was seriously considering switching to the Professional version of AVG, ack no 64bit version?! There just doesn't seem to be a good anti-virus solution and I don't live in the States so I can't beta test the Microsoft solution! There is always Avast, but something just doesn't feel right with it.

I am sure there is more as I haven't posted for such a long time, but its all good. There will be time! I could just pimp OSNN ( http://www.osnn.net ), but that would be wrong. This post was dedicated to Richard Whitely who died last night, he was the first person to be seen on Channel 4 and died after complications during heart surgery. He was a bit of an idiot really, but he knew it and that’s what made him great. It is also dedicated to Jed, what a hero!
