I somehow managed to pull a muscle while just walking up the stairs last night, have had the doctor out (due to pain) and he has informed me that its probably muscular as he cant feel any bones or discs where they shouldn't be, so i suppose i should be grateful for that, just waiting for Dad to get me some pain killers i was prescribed and hopefully have a pain free night, unlike last night

That sucks dude... I ****ed up one of my discs last year and it is a ****ty time.

All I can say is get plenty of rest, because it talks a while for your back to heal up properly.

doctors here don't say rest now, they say to keep moving, don't sit down or lay down for too long as it don't help, trying to get up after only 5 mins sitting down is bad enough, 10 mins is a killer.

Must admit its a lot easier to rest though and get people to wait on you hand and foot

Sorry to hear that. Back injuries and pulls can be insane.

Personally, I would take the painkiller and lay down for awhile and just let the muscles relax and naturally lengthen. Being upright results in stabilizing muscles to be used at all times and means you can't fully relax all the necessary muscles. Movement is good so you don't tighten up too much with a pull but you need to balance it with rest. Moist heat and cold packs used at different times can also significantly help.

I've hurt my neck and back a few times. When your back hurts it is hard to do anything without making it worse.

    Get better soon.

Yes use hot/cold packs, ice it 15 minutes at a time and then go for the heat, back sprains are painful and can take some time to heal.

It should pass in about 3 days. If not they have "muscle relaxant" medication that will help. Ask about it if the pain doesn't get any better.

It's amazing how easy it is to do as you get older. I used to have to be really stupid (like tossing 100 lbs barbells in air and the n catching them to reverse my grip). Now I can do it just trungint arouund suddenly.

Alternating heat and cold seems to work the best.
