A place for my thoughts.
New Stereo

Ok, so after hearing my friend's PS3 on surround system my gaming setup seemed somewhat.. lacking. That and you can only watch movies thru the TV's speakers for so long.
So last Saturday I went down to a local electronics store (EHR) and bought a system. I chose one of those no payment/no interest for a year deals since I don't have all the funds right now.
So here is what I got:
I love the receiver, it takes all the analog inputs (component, s-video and composite) and converts it to HDMI so I only have to connect one cable to my TV.
The receiver has a pass-through feature on the HDMI where it will pass-through the last selected HDMI input when the receiver is off, that way I can watch TV without the reveiver on. It also takes the audio from the HDMI cable which means less cables and I can use the optical for other things.
Here is how I connected everything:

The area where I put everything was a storage cupboard like the one to the left but I didn't have any other place to put it all so I took the doors off and used it for that instead. I think it looks alright, although I lost quite a bit of storage room.

I used to do that since I had a nice speaker set. But I use my laptop as my main computer now, the desktop is just for grunt computing processing.
I watch alot of movies and play some games on my 32" LCD HDTV now. A surround stereo was just the next step.
Now the next step after this is a universal remote. Maybe a Harmony 880 or so.Posted October 30th, 2008 at 3:37am by Admiral Michael

I just ordered 1 2ft and 1 3ft HDMI cable along with a 8ft optical cable from http://www.bluejeanscable.com/ yesterday and it's already on the truck for delivery
.
I had to buy a new cable for my orig XBox since I need optical now. Got that the other day, man what a nice cable. I was having an issue when I turned my ceiling fan on or off I would loose the picture on the XBox (it would come back), this new cable fixed it. I had a feeling it was interference and the old component cable was a cheapie and didn't look like it was shielded.Posted November 6th, 2008 at 8:01pm by Admiral Michael
